It is quite natural for the limbs of a tree to die off over the course of its lifepsan. It is also quite common for a tree to experience rot, disease or pest damage, which can result in portions of the tree to die off.

Removing the dead limbs from the tree will reduce the risk of falling branches that might cause property damage. The process of removing these limbs is known as dead wooding.
